Via SMH, Google Maps can now serve not just the satellite images, but also street maps and "hybrid" maps. Friends in the States have been using that for ages, and now folks from Down Under can finally enjoy the same privilege.
Well, not quite. First of all, the street name searching is not working so it is a bit difficult to navigate around. There also appears to be bugs where satellite images and street map images don't overlay properly. For example, here's where my parents live on the Gold Coast (on Santabelle Crescent).
Obviously my parents don't live on the canal. Sydney maps are fine though, but Gold Coast maps are really stuffed up.
Update: FOCUS church location map has been updated to use the Hybrid map and upgraded to use GMap2 API.
