Unsettling

Yesterday I took a day off work, as our new place was destined for settlement. Well, not quite. Talked to the solicitor and figured out that the settlement won't happen until Friday. D'oh. But it was still quite a hectic day yesterday. We inspected the place in the morning, as we originally requested someone to come in to do a quote on replacing the windows (we thought we would get the key then). It looks like the new windows won't be done until late January, because of the holiday session. We have a chat with the neighbours to work out what the surroundings are like. The previous owner has left a dog (named scouter who is a 7 year old cross breed), and likely we will take up the responsibility to take care of it. That was unexpected...

And it looks like I will be busy hacking the new place for the first month or so. Two major things first would be painting the 2 rooms close to the front door, and patch up the floor in the middle of lounge. We went to Bunnings in the afternoon to look at some materials, and picked up a handyman's handbook. That book makes those "impossible" jobs look like a piece of cake. Maybe I am just not a real engineer - someone who prefer to build stuff on the computer with fingers, rather than on the workbench with power tools...
