Shopping at Megamart

Megamart in Alexandria has its grand opening last Saturday, and that was how we spent our Saturday morning. It was quite heavily crowded when we got there at 9:30 in the morning, and there was already a long queue of people waiting to check out. It was a huge warehouse that sells furniture and home electronics. Because of the grand opening, a lot of items are hugely discounted. On top of that, you can get 10% off by presenting a voucher from the local news paper. After spending nearly three hours looking at "things", we ended by buying some cheap DVD (Monsters, Inc and Ice Age), a larger rice cooker, a food processor and a sandwich mater. Well. The AUD$349 deal on the original Palm Tungsten was tempting, but I guess I don't need another PDA.

We did spent quite a lot of time looking at bed and mattress for our new place, and compare the offering from Megamart to the Sleep City next door and 40 Winks down the road. With all the special offers and discounts, Megamart looks quite competitive in pricing. Moreover, the Asian sales guy we talked to (Som I think it was his name) is very knowledgeable in mattress. When we went to the 40 Winks later, the new sales there just had no idea, and we actually have to show her different spring types inside the mattress, a knowledge that we have just acquired from the previous guy from Megamart. If the price is similar, I know who I will give my money to.

At while we are at Megamart, we have just applied another credit card. It is the Coles Myer Source MasterCard, without the FlyBuys EXTRA FAST and no annual fee. I don't need FlyBuys as I never claim anything from it since its introduction in Australia 10 years ago. However, it is that 12 months interest free offers in Coles Myers, and the once off 10% off voucher that interests me. I normally pays off all my debts at the end of interest free period. And with 12 months interest free when you buy in Coles Myers, it means you can make 4.75-5% return by just leaving that amount of cash in an on-line saving account for a year. Plus that 10% discount voucher, I am sure it will be very useful when we move into our new place in a month time.
