More on the banks

Due to the reduce of my credit card benefit from my previous post, I need to chance my access account (the everyday banking type) from unlimited ATM transactions per month to another one with 6 ATM/EFTPOS transactions per month to save on the monthly bank fees. I usually use 2 or 3 per month anyway, so these extra transaction benefits have no use to me.

So I rang up the bank last evening trying to get it organised. After waiting on the phone for a few minutes, the bloke on the other end of the phone informed me that there is no way he can do it on the phone, and I need to make the change in the branch. Moreover, he insists that I need to close my current account and create another one in order to make the change. What?! That just sound so ridiculous. I need to close and open to change from Select and Advantage? There must be hundreds or thousands of people wanting to degrade their access account due to the account keeping fee can no longer be waived by their credit card, and they can't possibly ask everyone to cancel and rejoin?! Moreover, there are heaps of trouble associating with account changes like re-organising direct debits, etc. You can't be serious...

But this morning I went to the ANZ down at Anzac Parade in Kingsford, and the branch manager fixed it up for me in 2 minutes. No question asked...

Sometimes you just get to wonder whether the people at the customers' call centre were just having no idea on how things were supposed to be done, or were just trying to get you off the line as quickly as possible at 6:30pm in the evening.
