O-Week Cold Turkey at Uni

So yesterday afternoon I tweeted: Did a day of ‘cold turkey’ on the main walkway of UNSW. Really exhausted now but had some good conversations. Got a reply from Big Al a few minutes later: @scottyang cold turkey.. ? So… What exactly does cold turkey mean, especially in my context? I cannot remember where the [...]

LinkedIn for Clergyman?

C’mon. There got to be a website that’s like LinkedIn for the clergyman. You know. You go up there. Tick on the box “Anglican”, put “Moore College” under education, and put “MTS” and “student ministry” under experience, click on Search, and voila! Print out the list and off you go to the next parish representatives’ [...]

對面的女孩看過來 Church Camp Version

I was having fun coming up with 2 ads for FOCUS Church Camp 2008 for the FOCUS Mandarin Church over the last few weeks. I think the highlight has been playing a song parody of 對面的女孩看過來 (任賢齊/阿牛) last Friday/Sunday. The idea came up one evening. Since I am selling the church camp, I want a [...]

Why wouldn’t you want to go to this Christian conference?

Boy Edmond

Wilson & Susana’s baby birth log — it is a boy! And his name is “Edmond”. Congratulation the Cheungs! We actually got a call in the morning on Saturday the 21st about the contraction and Vivian suspected that it was coming soon. Then it is a Sunday birth on the following day! Take care!

Using Drupal for Church Website

Matt Farina: Drupal for Churches. There is a series of podcast on how to use Drupal on church websites, and by just looking at the episode list it looks pretty interesting! I am downloading them now :) FOCUS website is still running on an old Drupal 4.7 code-base but I have not had anytime working [...]

So, How is MBF?

“So, how is the Mandarin Bible Fellowship?” It seems to be one of the most frequently asked question when you bump into some old friends who you have not contacted for ages. It happened on a few occasions last Saturday when we went to Florence‘s farewell. I think maybe it is a good time to [...]

Visited Chinese Congregation at St. Paul’s Carlingford

No, we didn’t sleep in, nor forget to turn up to church yesterday, just in case people asked (and indeed some have). We went to visit St. Paul’s Carlingford Anglican Church yesterday, bringing two friends who recently moved to North-Western Sydney to their Chinese congregation. We had late breakfast in Eastwood before heading to Carlingford [...]

Three Videos Every Church Website Should Have

Via Simon, three videos every church website should have. It just makes so much sense. Which one do you prefer, if you are trying to decide whether you want to visit a church, if you are new to the region? Pages after pages of text trying to explain who we are, theological brief, what we [...]

Al Stewart, Bishop of Wollongong

Sydney Anglicans: The Rev Al Stewart was announced last night as the new Bishop of Wollongong. Congratulation, and busy work ahead. The very first sermon I heard when I came to Sydney was given by Al — I still remembered that big sunny day during O’week when CBS ran their “taste test” (or whatever it [...]

Peter Brock, Steve Irwin and Jesus Christ

Two famous Aussie died last week, and one controversial Israelite died almost 2,000 years ago. I did not expect to put those three names under one sentence, but somehow Joshua managed to used them as illustrations to conclude his talk this morning on John 6. If I remembered correctly, the logic basically goes like this. [...]

CMS Missionaries on Video Podcast

Via Sydney Anglicans Media, CMS missionaries now have an RSS feed of video podcast, and Danny Mullins whom FOCUS is trying to support, has uploaded the first video. Looks like it is powered by Google Video to save bandwidth. However I am having trouble finding out the actual feed on their website. Any pointer?

Hillsong at Rosebery and Southern Courier Poll

An interesting article in 27th June issue of Southern Courier (article can be viewed on-line with appropriate plugin). Article titled “Hillsong poll queried” on page 9, reporter questioned the result of the poll related to Hillsong buying the former RTA property at Rosebery, and how would that affect the neighbouring residents (corresponding article see Southern [...]

Need Help with Building a Church

Someone needs some help with building a church. Actually, not building the actual church, i.e. the people, but building the church building. GL from Shandong rang me up today asking whether I know anyone that knows about constructing church buildings. Apparently due to town planning, his church meeting place in China is scheduled to be [...]
