Over the last week I have moved FOCUSER.net (yes the good ol site that does not seem to be used by anyone any more) and all my personal sites from VPSLink to Jumba‘s Virtuozzo VPS. Because
- It is Australian (servers in Sydney in my case), whereas VPSLink is in US
- Believe it or not, Jumba is actually cheaper ($10/month)
- Most importantly, VPSLink sucks after being acquired by Endurance International, and the server migrated to Boston = even higher latency.
Jumba is not without fault — had a 48 hours down time the other day. None of the sites here are important anyway :)
Thanks for moving to Jumba. Just jump on to support via http://www.jumba.com.au if you have any issues. The systems are manned 24/7 so failed services should be getting corrected quickly.
Managed dedicated server environments are available via Jumba’s sister company AussieHQ. For corporate hosting and critical systems take a look at http://www.aussiehq.com.au. btw – more info will be released in the next few weeks regarding some big news.
Cheers,
Steven
I’ve had few site down issues with Jumba, at one time I had an Apache config error when accessing my site – by the time the my someone looked at my ticket, it was up again…
I guess I got what I paid for, as I have one of their shared hosting cheapest plans.
Been thinking of moving my personal sites to a VPS in U.S, but just too lazy at the moment.
48 hours downtime for a personal site is still a fair bit.
Hopefully it’s a smooth ride for you, certainly having the site local will make it feel a lot faster.
Yes it’s a personal site so I wasn’t too picky with the uptime, but true that 48 hours down time from one of the bigger providers in Australia means that they still need to pick up their game.
Might have something to do with Virtuozzo, which is at the bottom of my virtualisation preference.
Any hosting provider is temporary to me anyway, until something better turns up (or until it becomes too unbearable :)
