The Christ, Jesus Is
One thing new I’ve learnt from Joshua’s preaching today on John 1. He mentioned that in John 20:31, despite the way it has been translated, it literally means “… so that you may believe that the Christ is Jesus” instead of Jesus is the Christ. Purpose of John’s Gospel is more towards “Finding the One” than “Who is this man”. Most first century Jews were not really interested to know who Jesus is, but they are more interested to find out who Christ is.
I tried to look up a linear Bible and could not figure out how it is concluded, due to my non-existing Greek and poor “pattern matching” ability. But I’ll just trust what the pastor said :)
