DreamHost Crazy Domain Insane now with Custom DNS
I have been running some of my sites on DreamHost or 2 months. I initially joined the Crazy Domain Insane hosting plan, which provides me more-than-enough storage space and bandwidth, but does not allow me to customise my DNS entries — this is for higher priced plans.
However when I logged into my DreamHost control panel today, I spotted a tiny link [DNS] next to my domains.
Clicking into it gives me controls to add extra DNS entries for my domains! Sweet. They still advertise that CDI plan provides no custom DNS, but I am happy with this little surprise.
Update: DreamHost has just made an announcement via newsletter that Custom DNS is now for all customers! Yuppie!
Moreover, they have quadrupled (x4) disk spaces and octupled (x8) bandwidth on all hosting plans. That gives me, a CDI subscriber, 20Gb of space + 1 Terabyte of outbound bandwith per month. How am I suppose to use that up?!

How about that? I wonder if I was responsible for this new addition — I just signed up with DreamHost (planning to switch from my current host) and pestered the sales team with DNS-management questions. Mainly, if I couldn’t manage my own DNS, I wasn’t going to host my domains with DreamHost. :) In any case, it’s neat to see that it wasn’t just me that got the new DNS controls.
