What will you write in that email?

What will you write in that email, that is destined to loop all the way back to you in 20 years time? Forbes.com apparently provides this service. The E-Mail Time Capsule allows you to send an email back to yourself in up to 20 years time, and from its description, it seems to have a [...]

Visual Studio Express — free for one year

Via digg.com, Visual Studio Express is now free download for one year from MSDN website, and from the FAQ, you can apparently use it commericially and for production sites. And with its “free for one year” deal, it just means that Microsoft might start charging those downloads after Nov 2006, but what has been downloaded [...]

Steve Vai Clip on Google Video

Steve Vai plays “Tender Surrender” on Google Video Search. This is fully sick. “Tender Surrender” on the Alien Love Secrets EP was actually one of my favourites, and looking at how it was performed is amazing. Steve Vai is truly a show man. By the way, you can download videos in FLV format on Google [...]

Google Video Downloader Bookmarklet 0.1

I love Google Video Search — great way to waste your evening and plenty of bandwidth. However, I hate to watch video on a Flash player embeded inside a web browser window. I also hate to download the same video again and again every time I want to watch it. So yesterday evening I hacked [...]

SGI, delisted

Via Slashdot, SGI‘s stock has been delisted from NYSE. Again, that reminded me how much turbulence IT world has. Back in my days, SGI used to make sexiest boxes for un*x geeks (wow! look at the curve of that blue O2), and contributed influential technologies (OpenGL, STL, etc). I still remember computer shows in the [...]

Christ came to divide families

It was great that Al Stewart is back preaching at the City Bible Forum for the rest of this year. He’s one of my favourite Bible teacher. Sharp and clear his preaching is, and they are always challenging. The passage for this week is on Luke 12:49-57. Al started with different images of Jesus people [...]

倉頡 Changjei

Microsoft and its Live Software

Windows Live “beta” — absolutely the most talked about topic on Internet over the last two days. Heavy “Ajax” that has been all over the web these days which I have started to hate. Doesn’t work on Firefox yet, and it constantly crashed my Internet Explorer. Still, sounds like Microsoft has finally decided to ditch [...]

Data integrity ain’t that mythical

Via lesscode. Alex Bunardzic, who might have recently found himself hated by many ‘database geeks’, quoted this interview with David Heinemeier Hansson and wrote another article on the myth of data integrity, where he debunked the ‘sacred cows’ of the corporate IT practices — the data integrity of the relational database. His main points were: [...]

Weekend Yada Yada…

Stuffs accomplished this weekend. Installing Windows — our TV broke down due to bad memory, which subsequently ruin the whole box. Got a cheap replacement from eBay two weeks ago, and only had managed to reinstall Windows properly last night. Hopefully that will be the last for this year. Installing Linux — install a refresh [...]

Moved to DreamHost

FuCoder.com is now hosted on DreamHost. Using the cheapest hosting plan, but it still provides me far more than I need. 4.8Gb space and 120Gb bandwidth a month. Shell on Debian-based Linux server. Cron job. Etc. It is actually the first time I signed up to a hosting account — most my other sites are [...]

Logos Bible Software Blog

Via ESV Blog, Logos Bible Software Blog — a weblog that talks about, hmm, Bible software in general, especially (probably) the industrial leading Logos. Lots of very interesting entries.

Akismet, centralised spam combating solution by Matt

Matt Mullenweg announced a new spam combating service — Akismet. If you are a personal blogger, or pro-blogger-wannabe who cannot make more than $500 a month, Akismet is free for you to use. If it is a commercial site, or you are making big bucks from your blogsites — then a commercial license needs to [...]

Install Gentoo Linux on VMWare Player on Windows XP

(Update: Actually, there is no point setting up QEmu, playing around with VMX file, etc to try to bootstrap the disk image. There is actually no point getting VMWare Player. Just go an install the free VMWare Server — it is so much better.) Me. I am stuck. On Windows. Well, not really by choice. [...]
