Marrying Hongkie

Yesterday I went to my ex-course mate Gary’s wedding. A big one I’ll say. Around 300 people crowded into St. Clement to witness the big day – people from two difference churches, families, colleagues, friends, bible college, etc. A big night as well, as the wedding continued in the Chinese banquet style. We got to catch up with people that we have not caught up for years, and also met some people that we did not expect to meet.

One interesting observation I had, however, is about Taiwanese guys marrying Hong Kong girls. There were exactly 4 Taiwanese guys in my year, when I started my B.E. Computing in UNSW back in 1995. One got married to a Hong Kong girl 5 years ago (that’s yours truly). M married to J, another Hongkie, less than 3 months ago. Gary married to a Francis yesterday, who was also from Hong Kong. And over the banquet table I heard that F is getting married in 2 months – to, guess what, a Hongkie!!!

That is four out of four, 100 percent of Taiwanese guys marrying Hong Kong girls, sampled from my ex-course mates who started uni 10 years ago. Statistically the result is indeed quite interesting, as you can definitely see a “trend” here. What about the derived social implication? I will leave that for you to analyse :)

Taiwanese girls are hard to get. That’s the stereotype I heard back in my undergraduate days.

Taiwanese girls are hard to get.

So any Taiwanese girl that wants to stand up and defend?

Actually, according to that stereotype, does that imply Hong Kong girls are “easy” to get in comparison. So the call should be, any Hong Kong girl that wants to stand up and defend?

that sort of stats is scary! cannot be pure coincidence (play dark sombre music in your head …)

    Hmmm. Can’t be pure coincidence.

My current theory (nothing conspiracy) is that, the first couple who got married 5 years ago have set such a great example, therefore subsequently all the other three guys decided to follow the same route, and all got (and is getting) married within 6 months this year.

    :)

“Taiwanese girls are hard to get” – you mean short in numbers or that they are picky?

A cousin who is singaporian american, says that taiwanese guys are nicer than other asian guys so she married an taiwanese american.

“…short in numbers or that they are picky?”

The latter. But I only knew one Taiwanese girl back then so the former is probably true as well.

Actually, Taiwanese girls are mostly not easy to take care of. They are picky sometimes to Taiwanese guys only. Some of my friends married Taiwanese girls.

“i think that chinese (mainland) girls are prettier than taiwanese girls by far…”

that’s weird, most of the mainland girls I met here are uglier than Taiwanese girls I’ve met. well, at least that’s how it is in Toronto.

Hi there, I randomly came across your blog which was published long times ago. I was looking for articles, blogs, anything that compares HK girls to Taiwanese girls and I found your blog. Recently, all my guy friends have been telling me how much they love Taiwanese girls and how much they don’t like HK girls. A lot of them don’t want to date HK girls because they totally fell in love with how sweet the Taiwanese gals can be. I think it can be a very interesting topic.
