Pre-85 Video Game Character

Friday afternoon. Exhausted. So I took a quiz which I saw earlier today – What video game character are you? Here is the result: I am Kung Fu Master. I like to be in control of myself. I dislike crowds, especially crowds containing people trying to kill me. Even though I always win, I prefer [...]

Everybody loves Eric Raymond

Everybody loves Eric Raymond, a comic strip about the lives of ESR, RMS and LBT. Published weekly. Very very funny comic strip for Linux geeks by Linux geek. Or was that GNU/Linux?

Campus Bible Study Forum

Just spotted the Campus Bible Study Forum when I visited CBS’s website to check out some information! And I am now the proud registered user number 23!! Too bad that user registration require moderation, which is actually a good idea for a ministry site like CBS. Thus I shall post my feed back here, since [...]

New iBook and MacMini

ThinkSecret had rumoured last week that a new iBook and MacMini will be released soon, and there they are, as of this morning, updated Apple computers for the consumers! 512Mb RAM is now standard across the board (which means 1.5Gb max for iBook), which I think is probably the bare minimum to have Mac OS [...]

Back from Holiday

Came back from the Gold Coast yesterday afternoon. It was a nice break. Weather was a bit un-Queensland, i.e. cold, in the first two days, but nice and warm for the rest of the week. Now I just have tons of mails, both dead tree and electronic version, to sort out. Have a talk this [...]

GreaseMonkey Vulnerability

Pre-0.3.5 GreaseMonkey has a severe security flaw that allows evil webmasters to take over your computer. Solution is either install “neutered” version 0.3.5 or uninstall. Also reported on Slashdot. I don’t have any user scripts that depend on GM* functions, so I chose upgrade.

Re-doing FOCUS-UNSW.org

It has been under my todo list for at least a year, and the development has gone through multiple iterations of trial, error and completely re-work. Yesterday morning I have finally decided to switch our church website, FOCUS-UNSW.org, from my old home-build content management system to the new Drupal based site. Not just switching the [...]

Gravatar still off-line

Pay your bill on-time! … especially when there are a lot of people relying on your service! I noticed that on Saturday, Gravatar.com, the service that provides global-recognised avatars from the hash of your email, went off line and can no longer be contacted. DNS won’t resolve, so I fired up WHOIS to check what [...]

Drupal.org’s New Servers

Drupal, an open source PHP-based content management system, has its web site gone down last week, due to shared server getting hacked. It asked the community for $3,000 donation so they can buy a dedicate server, but subsequently has raised $10,000! Moreover, Sun Microsystem has donated a dual-Opteron Sun Fire. Plus the three Dell Linux [...]

Mactel is Fast

AppleInsider: developers renting the $999 Intel Mac development platform (P4 3.6Ghz) says that it is “fast”. Faster than a 2Ghz G5 (that’s almost 2 years old, btw) claimed by one developer. Well, I am really looking forward to what’s coming in a year, but I need to get Apple’s previous propaganda off my head first.

Frustrated at Work

Last two weeks have been very busy at work, monitoring busy servers, debugging deadlocks, keeping the sites alive, and had little time left doing more development. Performance issue on some large customers is still persistent, but is hopefully getting better. Can’t wait for the holiday to Queensland next week. This is Scott at work. WARNING: [...]

ESV, KJC, CUV and Textus Receptus

ESV Blog is an excellent resource to those who enjoy reading their English Standard Version Bible, and for the last month or so they ran series of blog entries on translators answering the questions from the readers. Very good read. Again, which Greek text source is used by ESV has been asked. Bill Mounce answered [...]

Leadership

Is “leadership” a personality that was born with you, or is it something that can be acquired later on in life through study or training? If it is the later, how old you need to be before you loose the opportunity to “get it”? I am not just talking about “servant-hood”, that Christians consider as [...]

Del.icio.us Tag For

Social bookmarking service provider del.icio.us now supports “for:username” tag to send the links to another user. It would be useful to push links to those who have no idea how to subscribe to an RSS feed, like your average grannies and church pastor (maybe Longhorn and IE7 can fix this?). This has enhanced del.icio.us, which [...]
