Anakin is Darth Vader

Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith Went to Randwick Ritz to see the Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith last night. We watched the 8:30pm one, a week and half after the it has been released, but the cinema was still packed. The movie is nothing but great – I’ll give it a 9.9 out of 10.

What’s not so good:

  • Hayden Christensen’s acting (even though better than Episode II)
  • Stupid dialogues between Anakin and Padme that was supposed to be romantic
  • Yoda fighting with shorter-than-usual light sabre
  • How quickly Anakin has fallen to the dark-side after his initial mistake – pretty much “Doh! I should have not done that! I’ll serve you anyway, my Sith Master”

What’s good:

  • Final duel – the tension between Obiwan and Anakin Darth Vader
  • Ewan McGregor – more Alec Guiness like than the previous two
  • Fully packed action
  • No more Jar Jar Binks
  • … and after all – it is Star Wars

Yeah – that’s why I gave 9.9/10 to the previous two prequels as well – I enjoyed all of them. Gotta sleep now, and I might blog more about Star Wars tomorrow.

I’d agree there was definitely not enough turmoil involved with Anakin going to the dark side. It was pretty much:

Sith: if you don’t, Padme will die.
Anakin: ok

There was no real, “this is going against everything I believe in, im a Jedi and I’m super cool”.

Regardless, it was a fantastic movie and I really enjoyed the intensity that the lightsabre fights were done with. I thought Anakin versus Doku was a great example of that, along with AnakinDarth Vader versus Obiwan.

The plot in this movie was great – I wouldn’t change it in any way because it allows the audience to relate to the character of Anakin / Darth Vader. It also presents a softer side to Anakin / Darth Vader, because he didn’t just change to the dark side because he was evil, it was out of his love for Padmé (and his insane desire for power etc – THAT’S NOT THE POINT!!!). I disagree with your comment on Hayden Christensen! He is sooo suited to playing Anakin, he portrayed his evil-ness extremely well and there isn’t any other actor that I can think of that would do the role better. On Padmé and Anakin scenes, I agree about the cheesy dialogue, but I can understand why it’s there (to add emotion, blah blah blah). I suppose this cheesy dialogue really helps in the plot because of Anakin’s succumbing to the dark side for Padmé. Besides these small faults, the film is absolutely wonderful! The music, plot, drama and characterisation is superb. I would definitely agree that the movie is a 9.9/10 – it is simply genius and I think that Lucas has definitely proved himself to be a truly fantastic writer/director. I love this movie on every possible scale.

Okay…

On Hayden Christensen’s acting, I remembered back in 1999, before he was casted, there was a rumour on the Internet that Leonardo Di Caprio would play Anakin Skywalker. I have recently seen Aviator on DVD, and how much I wished Leonardo was casted. He has got the look, the acting, the angry eyes, etc (except the voice).
