GreatNews

GreatNews – the intelligent news reader. It’s available on Windows. It’s free. Made by a fellow Chinese. It is relatively light-weight (no .NET nor Java). It has lots of features that I cannot get use to. Moreover, it has Bloglines integration, so my reading status is still stored centralised.

Maybe not that great. Just realised that it uses IE for its main reading pane (like most Win32 news readers), but clicking on a link does not use my default browser, which is Firebird in this case. Not enough short-cut keys so my hand has to reach to the mouse constantly.

Now, where is the support/bug-reporting forum of this thing…

You are wrong my friend.
You can configure greatnews to use firefox by option–>usability. Tick box before ‘open rss link in external default browser’.
As in your case, firefox is your default one.

This is a great Rss reader product by our 華人。We should show some patience.

It’s very promising. Especially its synchronization with bloglines makes it a very strong rss platform with strong synchronization server api support.
You can also use it as outlook style by ticking view–>news list.
After that, once you click on a special feed, you will see all the news you received was displayed in a pane one by one as every single email item looklike.

Once you used it for a little while, you will discover more productive function.

Also I am gonna write a firefox plug-in for it. So you can right click a feed in firefox and then subscribe it in greatnews straight way. It’s gonna be livemarkes compatible.

Cheers!

There is a workaround for it, I’d written about it earlier.
