IE 0-Day Hole

Internet Explorer carved up by zero-day hole. No one clicking on any link today on his/her Internet Exploder. Posted this on FireFox 0.8…

Liquid Cooled G5

Two days after previous announcement on Airport Express, Apple has finally announced an upgrade to the long overdue G5 PowerMac. This time, there are three models to choose and the top of the range sports a whooping 2.5Ghz G5. The “World’s Fastest Personal Computer” has just gone faster. At the same time, it might also [...]

Static Content for WordPress

Via Matt’s Aside, Bill Zeller has produced a static files generation plugin for WordPress! It is a great news for me, who has got WordPress running with 3 content filter plugins on this wimpy 400Mhz web server. An index page with 15 blog entries would take 1.5 seconds to manufacture, and my yearly archive pages [...]

Javascript the Worst Invention?

David Andersson argued against Bert Bos’ claim that Javascript is the worst invention. I agree with the argument, as someone used Javascript everyday at work, I see it is something we have today that can transform a website into a web application.

Gmail, Finally

Big thanks to invitation from Thomas, that I have finally got myself a Gmail account! I just had a brief look of it, and the interface seems to be pretty light-weight and slick, using quite a bit of XMLHttpRequest in Javascript to make it more ‘application’-like. I guess it probably also means that I would [...]

SMH Registration

Sydney Morning Herald now requires registration to read some articles, ala New York Times’ style. Dodgy. It is just their way to collect customer data for marketing purpose.

Airport Express

New Apple gadget! Apple has announced its Airport Express, a portable wireless 802-11g base station with integrated printer sharing (via a USB port) and audio streaming from iTunes (via a 1/8″ audio jack). All at the size of a Powerbook/iBook power brick! This kind of device would be very useful for a house that desires [...]

Sourceforge @ Optus

Since Flow got purchased by iiNet, Optus has taken up the responsibility of an Australian mirror of Sourceforge. I need to download stuff from SF everyday, and it is definitely a warm welcome.

Return or Throw?

Doug Ross prefers handling error code on the spot than catching the exception. I have written database engine and client drivers, but I still love semantic of exceptions more. But yoiu will find there are equal amount of bad coders out there who ignore the return code and who have catch-all everywhere.

Garrett @ Kingsford-Smith

Peter Garrett might be asked to be an MP standing for Kingsford-Smith. A secret weapon of ALP? I’m not that keen, but at least I would like to see D. Sullivan getting back his Randwick mayor. Currently listening: Midnight Oil: Cemetry in My Mind.

Sun Bloggers

Bloggers from Sun Microsystem. Maybe we will hear more about technologies like Java, Solaris, UltraSparc and StarOffice.

Light weight PHP forums

miniBB and PunBB are the two light weight open source PHP forum software that I am investigating to power possible the next generation of FOCUS forum.
