Airport Express

New Apple gadget! Apple has announced its Airport Express, a portable wireless 802-11g base station with integrated printer sharing (via a USB port) and audio streaming from iTunes (via a 1/8″ audio jack). All at the size of a Powerbook/iBook power brick!

Airport Express

This kind of device would be very useful for a house that desires connectivity in every room, but cannot afford to do proper CAT5 wiring all over the place, i.e. my place :) It currently retails for USD$129 on Apple.com, but the Australian price is not up yet, I am expecting it to be around AUD$200. And like all other Apple products, shop-around would probably not get you much cheaper price. Yeah. It is on the expensive side – about double the price of Asus WL-330, another portable Wi-Fi AP. Moreover, it works only with an iTune from either PC or Mac, but I am pretty sure it would get hacked to support many other protocols.

Drool…

Update: Australian price is out! AUD$219!!! Well. No way.
