Reading Panther’s First Impression thread on MacNN forums makes me drool. I better stop myself before my keyboard breaks due to excessive flooding. Apparently someone got a DP1 of Panther from WWDC last week, installed it on a G4 700M, and started yelling out how great it is. It seems to have the speed of OS 9 and the flexibility and stability of OS X. I know the upgrade is going to cost. But it might turn out to be a cheap “hardware upgrade” as it might accelerate the old G3 processor. Panther will be due in 3 months. Can’t wait…

Agreed! Panther looks to be a great upgrade. We’ll see how well it does to revitalize the g3 boxes out there.
I will probably wait until Panther is released before buying a new PowerMac G5. Then I will not have to purchase an upgrade. But do you think Panther will become a standard?
